i bought hl and cs and have the newest update for 1.4 but when i tried to use my router to make a lan game i could not play my 2 computers against one another because they were both running the same cd key. i wassoon booted off my own lan server. is there any way around this and why am i not allowed then to install software that i bought on my own computers. do i have to shell out another 30 bucks for each new copy of hl? how does this system work cs is a mod anyway.
i have also had trouble finding my server in the internet with my wan from another comp on the router/lan. do i need to be out side my network to find the net version of my game, cause i can acess the lan ip fine.
help me get rid of the ip in use message please (legally).cough hack ..... wink wink also i have a message the keep say ing some favorite list is courrupt and that i will have to reenter my favorite servers if i go through with what it is telling me to do. i get this at both my moms and dads house. dose anyone else have this problem?
thanks aHED of time.
Do you have the same cd key for both of the computers? If thats the case then what the hell did you expect? Go online to like google or metacrawler or some search engine. Search for HL CDKEY Generators. There are plenty of them out there and it will generate a fake cd key for you. I am pretty sure that it will work as long as your in lan comp is the server. Don't take it on the internet to other servers it wont work. Also if you want to switch cd keys it can be done in the registry. If you want instructions on that just ask it isn't hard.
Yes change one and not the other. The idea is that their both different. As long as your inside the lan then your ok. Make sure to setup the server as DMZ host through your router. This is so the other internet people can find you. Also if no one else is playing on that server comp set it up as a Dedicated Server, This means that it runs alot faster but you can't play on it.
only thing is attbi my cable co says on their site that it is a voilation to host a game server on the net because it is technically distributing attbi internet acess to others. can they dedect me of prevent servers, it this fair, as in is it really considered giving att services to others?
Well thats what my qwest DSL said. And what they did to prevent it was a ship an ip with the modem as a permenant firewall. I am working right now on a way around it. All they want you to do is pay for the right to serve. To be honest i don't know what will happen if they catch you hosting a server. Maybie you could say you didn't know you weren't supposed to host or something like that. If you signed something then don't use that excuse. If you host and your not supposed to do it in limited quantities of time. an hour here, an hour there. don't do it for like 6 hours straight. they are bound to figure it out then.
