Well here's the deal. All our computers are running Xp and we are running that shared connection deal. Everything runs okay but the two computers (that arent the host) cannot access certain sites. I have tried and looked through everything to fix the problem but i have no real idea where to start. Sites that don't work are things like shockwave.com and anything on angelfire. If anyone has had this problem or has any solutions they would be greatly appreciated. Keep in mind the host computer has no trouble running any sites. Just the other two that are networked to it.

Do you have a firewall on the two computers that are connecting to the host and if not does the host computer have a firewall like zonealarms which may be disabling the shockwave Plug-In from access the local network?

i really dont know... if you could tell me how to find out that would be greatly appreciated.

Just look at your taskbar by your clock, you will see ZA or something open. If you did not install a firewall then you probably don't have one running. What version of IE are you using? Probably Internet Explorer 6. I have seen this problem before and the only solution I has was a straight format and re-install of the OS. I will keep my I out for other solutions. The person I did the re-install on was using IE 6 and then downgraded which did not help things. That is why a re-install and use IE 5.5.

XP has its own firewall, it is included in the OS and you have to enable it. So check that!!!

formatting and reinstalling is a waste of time and could be a pain in the butt for some people. I don't think thats the 1st solution you should go for... EVER!; that should be the last if nothing u try works. But just like nightowl said, check and see if ur firewall is blocking any of those sites (that's if u have a firewall). Stallion says that XP has its own built in firewall? I was never aware of that, so i'll look more into that. Maybe someone like MadDoc or Noveo could help ya out in the mean time.

Had a similar probelm a while ago, it ending up having to do something with the MTU settings. Read something about it from maybe DSLreports.com or even somewhere right here. The default 1500 setting has to be lowered on some PCs in the registry. I remember one site http://www.avault.com wouldnt work until I changed this. Check it out, may or may not be it.

Lowering your MTU will decrease your internet performance. If you have to change it to something other than 1500 (1492, I believe if you use ppoe) then I would look for another solution. Like a hardware router.
