this forum is real nice. thanks to the people that run it and contribute to it.
i'm having this problem with my broadband. i turn on my computer and the connection is okay for seconds. before it fully boots up (i have a fairly slow computer) the connection is gone. i'm not behind a firewall or router; it's just me, my network card and my modem anyway, i called att and they took me through the steps. couldn't ping my gateway or anything, but they say they're end is good. end of the call i find out it's my OS (which i guess is the standard if it's not their fault). if i disable my network then re-enable it through windows (i'm using win2k) i get my connection back for a bit, then it dies.
through all this, it never comes back until i do something (but that might be because i'm impatient and i don't wait for it to come back.) any advice whatsover is welcomed and i appreciate it in advanced. thanks.
What brand cable modem? Do the lights on the front of the modem go out or turn amber/orange? Can the people at AT&T ping your modem? How 'bout the computer? Are you set up for a dynamic IP or static? If static, someone else might have the lease on th IP your trying to grab, or they could be static, grabbing yours. Don't go blaming the OS just yet...
cable modem is motorola, lights are all green and look normal. at&t can see my computer as soon as i turn it on, but it disappears soon after. they require dynamic IP, so no static IP. i've had a cable modem for several months without incident...just all of a sudden it starts acting up and no one seems to know why :P

DHCP Client

See if that helps.
You will want to STOP the DNS client and make sure that it is DISABLED. This was a problem with ATTBI when they ttok ove the @HOME service. It affects WIN XP and WIN2000 OS. You will lose your connection every 5-15 minutes with the DNS Client running.
