Which computer is showing the newtwork cable as being disconnected? You might verify that the CAT5 cable and the RJ45 plugs are good. Have you attempted swapping out the cables in question?

Also, if you running your LAN through a switch you should be running your machines at 100MB Full Duplex and not the 10MB Half Duplex you currently have them set for.

The only reason I can see, that you would do that is if your NIC was directly connected to your modem. With your router and its 4 port switch you shouldn't have any problems connecting at 100mb Full Duplex(thats if the switch side of your router supports it). The routers job is to handle the LAN to WAN interface, if for some reason you have to select 10mbit half duplex on your NIC to have a good WAN speed then I would say the router is not very good.

You just stated your solution. You are probably getting network collisions which is causing your connection to drop. I bet you hub does not have collision detection or anything. If it does runa test by re-inacting the problem and watch the light for collision detection. You will probably have to change to full duplex and you will not have this problem anymore.
