hey all...i'm new to networking so i'll appologize now if i piss anyone off with my dumb questions.

ok....i've got 2 pcs...my main pc(the specs or down below)...and the other is a pentium 166, 80mbof EDO ram...6 gb hard drive...smc ethernet

i have them sharing the internet connection (Shaw@home....cable) with a linksys 4 port router

can i also share files and stuff btween the 2 using mu router....if i can how do i do this

Yes you can.

Some configuration will be required on both systems:

• Install File/Printer Sharing and Client for MS Networks if neither is already.
• Install NetBEUI and use it as the protocol on the LAN side by binding File/Printer Sharing and Client for MS Networks to it. NetBEUI is not routable over the internet, thus it shoud increase your LAN's security. It should also be faster than TCP/IP on small LAN such as yours.
• Unbind TCP/IP from File/Printer Sharing and Client for MS Networks.
• Share the desired drives/folders by right clicking on them and selecting Sharing.... If Win2K is involved, users will have to be created as well as share permissions.

On the '95 machine, be sure to login on startup with credentials (user/pass) that will be accepted on the LAN.

i'm having no trobles with my system thats running XP...my other pc showes up but i can't accesses it...it says that i don't have permission or something

See "Sharing Drives / Folders" in my above post.

The procedure similar to Win2k. You must create specific user account (or accounts) for use with shared resources. Create this account on the 95 PC as well and login to it on startup.

I don't have XP so I can't walk you through it, otherwise I would.

If this does not work, try checking what permissions you gave the shares. When you say full control the default sometimes might be passworded. Did you put the workgroup name for both computers the same?
