Running XP.

I made the mistake of trying Optimizer XP (from CNET). This guy is good. I uninstalled the program and found that it was not clean. He had gone deeper than I thought. Right clicking on my computer, clicking properties, I found that he had invaded my system properties under the general window. A logo had been tampered with, lines were altered, and he replaced Support Information with his tips on working in Windows.

Ok...he is good,real good, and messed big time with me. How do I extracate him from these areas? Any feedback greatly appreciated. Would like to do so if possible, without a system restore.

I don't know how to get rid of all that but to make sure you have all your critical files: Put XP disk in, click on exit when it comes up, leave disk in, you may be missing critical system files, type in RUN box sfc /scannow and click OK. (Space between c and /) Takes about 10 minutes

Don't you just hate it when you get zapped like that....
Here is an easy fix to your problem:

Look for the following files on your computer:

oeminfo.ini
oemlogo.bmp

They are located in: C:\WINDOWS\system32

Here are your options:

A> You can open oeminfo.ini with notepad and modify the data as you wish

B> You can create your very own bitmap as long as it is the following size-->> 180x116. Then you simply place it in the above mentioned folder to replace the existing one.

C> Or...Simply delete the above files.

Were would you put the bitmap on a win2k machine? I searched for the two files you metioned and I don't have either one of them now. My copy of 2kpro is not an OEM copy.

I got nailed with a software bomb once, and when the smoke cleared I had all these naked lady icons on my desktop . It added reg keys, changed critical files, and left a **** load of un-uninstalable progs I just clean installed.
Clean installs are how I clean house. It's almost like a crutch.
But with each one I make Windows better, by trying something different.
