Location (your's and the server) can play a big role. Yahoo is in my area, so I'm not surprised.

This speed test was taken from a Winfirst customer also. It was posted in the 'Fiber' forum of DSLR. I go to that forum from time to time and just slobber at the speeds

According to that site, the max speed is 10mbps, however, both tests show speeds far greater than 10mbps.
