Fiber isn't needed for good routing:

Tracing route to http://www.yahoo.akadns.net [216.115.102.76]

over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 10 ms <10 ms <10 ms 192.168.1.1

2 <10 ms 10 ms 10 ms sdsl-216-x-x-x.dsl.sjc.megapath.net [216.x.x.x]

3 <10 ms 10 ms 10 ms main4-main3-fe.sjc1.above.net [209.249.203.203]

4 <10 ms 10 ms 10 ms core1-main2-oc12.sjc1.above.net [208.185.175.253]

5 <10 ms 10 ms 10 ms pao1-sjc1-oc12-2.pao1.above.net [207.126.96.65]

6 <10 ms 10 ms 10 ms yahoo-above-1.pao1.above.net [64.125.31.230]

7 <10 ms 10 ms 10 ms ge-3-3-0.msr2.pao.yahoo.com [216.115.101.38]

8 <10 ms 10 ms 10 ms vl20.bas1.snv.yahoo.com [216.115.100.225]

9 10 ms 10 ms 10 ms w4.snv.yahoo.com [216.115.102.76]

Trace complete.

This is with my MegaPath/Covad 768 SDSL connection.

Location (your's and the server) can play a big role. Yahoo is in my area, so I'm not surprised.

glc1, i'm not sure how much it is. I think it depends what other services you have with them and what data transfer limit you want to pay.

According to that site, the max speed is 10mbps, however, both tests show speeds far greater than 10mbps.
