Just got a new Maxtor HD. SW comes w/ a proggy for ghosting existing drive. I'm at work now & haven't had the chance to play yet. Instructions say it's simple. But so am I so I figured I'd ask the panel for their thoughts.
Current IDE-0 is partitioned C/D. Will it copy only C or can I select both?
What should I watch out for or not do?
BTW, it's a 40 gig 7200 for $99 at Staples, a decent retail price in my market.
As a side note for education purposes, since XP requires activation for each install, how does one ghost an XP OS? (Not my situation. I'm running 98se)

You can make images for both drives, but one at a time.

Ghost works in Dos to image a drive too, usually for imaging the "active" partition since it can't be done while in use.

Put Ghost.exe, or whatever the exe file is, on a floppy, I believe Ghost has an option to make a boot floppy with Ghost on it.
Boot into the floppy and type: Ghost, and hit enter. Take it from there.

If XP is installed to an NTFS file system, you'll need the latest version of Ghost, or close to it, in order to make an image of the NTFS partition.

Things to consider....
The size of the image file, where will you put it? Make sure you have room for it somewhere. If you want it on a CD, make sure it will fit first. There are compression options, but clean up any files you don't need on the drive first, like temp IE files old programs you don't use etc.
As long as you read while you go, you should be ok, Ghost isn't hard to understand.
