WinXP with AIM issue ...

While using AIM on WindowsXP, a friend will IM me. When I get the new IM, of course the taskbar shows that IM window as a seperate application, flashing a color notifying me that window's contents has had changed.

I'll send my friend a reply, and when they respond to my reply the taskbar button will flash again as it would in any other Windows OS. However, the taskbar (on auto-hide) will crawl back up again. I'll send my reply, and again when they respond, the taskbar crawls back up to show me the flashing application button.

Now I've looked everywhere in AIM - and being very fluent with it I'm unable to find an option available to prevent the flashing-button from happening.

Can anybody tell me if WindowsXP has an option or setting I can change to prevent the taskbar from crawling back up on me like that? I hate when things keep sneaking up on me. :)

Thanks!

I'm not sure if this is what you mean. Right click the Taskbar and select properties. Uncheck "Group Similar Taskbar Buttons" and click Ok.

I don't think you can stop AIM from flashing. I know you can disable it for Chat rooms, but I'm not sure if you can do it. Maybe within the registry.

Close~!

You were both close, but it's not quite what I'm looking for.

I have the task bar on auto-hide... as you know, when you're done w/ the task bar it will crawl down and hide ... but when my friend IMs me, it causes the IM button on the taskbar to flash - when it flashes the task bar re-appears as if I put my mouse on it to bring it up (even though I don't want it to) ...

It's most annoying hahahaha --- any more suggestions?
