i have been using a netgear rt314 to run 2 computers . i have been using the Quake 3 mod Urban Terror for a few months with no problems until now. I can ping servers but cannot connect . I am using @home cable service (at least for now). I have reinstalled the entire game but still cannot connect. Also i cannot connect to internet service directly (w/o router) like i used to , i have powered both router and cable modem off. Any ideas?

Hmmm.....had a NetGear for a while at home, never had a problem. Have one at the office too, no problems with Q3.

What could have changed at the time you started having problems? I see WinXP now...recent install? Problems start with that?

What I have found to prove more reliable is to specify your IP address on all workstations, including gateway and DNS.

Assuming defaults, make your IP something like 192.168.0.11, 255.255.255.0 subnet. Leave WINS disabled. Gateway is the router, 192.168.0.1. DNS you'll use your ISP's DNS servers, which you can find on the routers telnet when it's connected, or hitting your ISP's websites support page, calling them, etc.

You have remote telnet admin of the router turned off? Changed the password? Wonder if someone telnet'd in and screwed with it.

To be honest with you...forget where. Don't have one in front of me to check....I'd have to sit down in front of one to take a peek. Just poke around with TelNet and wade through all the menu's. not on the Web Admin last I knew....have to use the old TelNet.

1.telnet in
2.menu 15
3. put your port range (example 2000-500) than your IP
3. save/exit

find the ports of your games

also if you have a firewall, that may be effecting it
