haha now that you think this was a completely moronic thread via the subject please read.

ok check this one out lemme know if any of you have had this. It's more of just an annoyance then an actual issue.

I was runnin 98se for the longest time because i was too lazy to back everything up and put the copy of 2k i bought half a year ago on. anyhew, one of my hd's took a dump on me so i said fuggit and responded with a small backup, another 512 of ram and another 40 gig hd to replace the 13 i was having problems with n then wiped my two drives n loaded 2kpro. Got everything setup and such but i'm noticing now, when i bring up a web page with a good deal of content, i hear it through the tv.

So basically, whenever i download something i hear static (very low levels though) coming through my tv. They're on the same splitter because i haven't purchased my computer desk i want and i already havfe a nice setup in my living room for it. i'm just wondering why i never noticed this before now.

probably more related to the ram or the new HD than the OS

Either your cable modem just by chance for some really wierd occurance is causing interference or it may be your new HDD although if it was emitting RFI/EMI like that I am sure your computer would be royally unstable. Now you mention it happens when you load up a big web page which would essentially knock off the HDD from the list seeing that if it was you would certainly see your TV go haywire when you first turn on the computer and windows starts up (HDD normally is going crazy loading windows). More than likely it is your cable modem causing this; you can call your cable company and see if they can send a tech out to check things. I myself had problems with my TeraPro modem causing my digital cable box to crash (it would litterally turn off almost!) so I put a high pass filter on the TV line to block the cable modem's high power upstream output from hitting the digital cable box and also to block low-frequency interference and AC backfeed from the TVs (turn on your TV and take the centre of the coax and touch it to the outside of the connector on your tele, unless your set is grounded you will notice a little spark although no need to worry about it). Ever since I put the filter on my digital cable box it rarely crashes (maybe once a month because of its ****ty CPU, Motorola DCT2000HT) and my upstream performance was vastly improved (breaking 100KB/s is no problem... it is sad though when your upstream beats your download, I do not have caps btw... so if you have a cap the cap will still prevail ).

Cable modems do have the potential to cause interference to TV sets because of their upstream transmit power levels and if the TV has a crappy tuner which allows the cable modem signal to add "noise" to the TV signal. A filter that blocks below 50MHz attached to the split leading to your TVs should get rid of the interference, also make sure your cable split where it enters the house has a tight connection to ground and that the cables themselves are snug on the splitter to prevent ingress. DO NOT INSTALL ANY FILTERS ON THE LINE TO THE CABLE MODEM, YOU WILL KILL YOUR CONNECTION!!! If all fails call the cable company and get them to look at it.

i could see the modem causing something like that as well, but in this instance the only things to change were in relation to the computer

nothing changed with the modem which is why i would look at the computer as well
