Window xp is rebooting for no reason. when i open applications, sometime it just reboots. sometime it doesnt. but usually it does when i open other stuff. its not a specific software that i have to open for it to reboot, just any software that makes the cpu work. I believe its either g6 ftp server or visual basics 6.0. if someone know please help me out.

My first guess would be a failing cpu fan. Most newer mobos are set up so if the fan drops below a rpm or stops working, then the computer restarts or fails. If that isnt the case, then check all your connections. Either a misconnected wire, bad wire, or NOT ENOUGH power can cause things like that to happen. How big is your power supply and what are you running on it? One more possibility is bad ram, although in my experience the computer freezes; it doesnt simply restart.

well, i installed xp a few weeks ago. i was waiting for drive image pro to come out with one that works for xp so i can make a restore. therefor, i didnt bother instlaling anything. nothing went wrong since the only thing installed was nero and aim w/ office xp.

then i did a fresh install when i got drive image pro 5.0. i installed everything and then it started. i reformatted againa nd it happened again. my fan is a chrome orb. 5,500 rpm. amd athlon 1.4 ghz. 256 ddram. i doubt its bad memory.

it might also be my network card. i have300 watt amd approved power supply. it works fine, even though winxp installed a different brand. ihad to use a network card because my modem wasnt compatible, so uploading disconnected me. when installed my network card, i took my 56k modem and my usb pci card out.

i really doubt its a faily fan too. it only restarts when i open applications. sometimes the applications open but other time it restarts. this happens to ne app, not just a specific one. i believe its when the cpu is working that it restarts, like beginning to burn restarted once, opening word restarted, opening aim it rebooted.

Heh, easy, the problem was the network card. acctons network card, beware. windows had another driver that could have worked, i tried that one. and it works so far. i changed to the real something network card instead of the one that it chosed.

well , i can defenetley say:
i had the same problem just 4 weeks ago whit that rebooting problem on xp, its just turn out to be a driver problem,
wenever xp finds a problematic driver it cant handle he reboots,
the problem is that , xp dosnt give eny indication of whats weant wrong, so must of the times the user find himself in a black hole,
not knowing what to do next, usualy, the best thing to do is:
restor the last good configuration known to the system,

i'm happy to infurm that since i have discuverd that , my xp act's
like a real super software !!!!! ,no problems attall,

Oh darn, I should have thought of that. I suppose I sometimes still think with a win98se brain. There is a way to change that, athough since i'm not home I cant check out how exactly. At least in win2k pro there was. You simply changed the options so it doesnt just reboot, I think it's in system properties.

Right-click on My Computer and select Properties. Click the Advanced tab. Under ‘Startup & Recovery,’ click Settings. Under ‘System Failure,’ uncheck the box in front of ‘System reboot

instead of rebooted, now ig et a bluescreen, and of course, i ahve to reboot. i still believe its my network card but maybe its not.

Yep reboot then a blue screen that says one of you hard drives is unstable and needs to be scaned (or somthing like that) tryed loading new nick card drivers /netgear/ no luck .... and with only one game loaded and no joystick loaded yet (cant find the butten programing software for it in xp) still searching for the prob myself... but if you find it let us know.
