I've done both. Currently I'm using the USB port. With only two PCI slots on my Micro ATX board, it saves room for other junk. I've never had any problems with speed (capped anyways), as the USB transfer limit is at 10Mbps. Given the choice, and room on the MoBo, I'd go with the NIC.
Only one other time have I configured a machine to use the USB. A friend's machine had a device conflict with the Vid card, and using the USB instead of the NIC was a quick way around it.
Try 'em both, see what works best for you. :)

What in the WORLD are you talking about?

BTW: I agree that USB is faster than NIC if the ISP gives speeds high enough (mine does).

I think you mean the reverse, right? NIC is generally the way to go for faster connections. Also will save some cpu cycles with all connections.
