Technically the max via USB is 12Mbs. Whatever card you purchase is probably a 10/100 capable of either max speed 10 or 100 depending on your network(ethernet,gigabit ethernet,etc..)Bottom line is speed wise it does not matter,however if you want reliability and don't want to have to reinstall USB every two weeks because it craps out then go with the card.

I just want to say about the usb connection. I use the usb and I've had cable for over a year and had no problems with it at all. But percentages say that ethernet card is probably the way to go if you can. :)

I've had both also....

I went from a USB to a cheap nic to a better nic.
Nic's are faster if you get a good quality one. :)

Although the USB specs are 12mbps, I havent seen a USB go faster than like 5mbps. Also, we have done tests before, and when you get 8mbps on a NIC, if you switch to USB, it is slower.

USB also uses some system resources.
