networking guru?

Post by onetrueday »

I do my best to be a good SG'er. Yet, here in my time of need; no one will help me!!

I'm running windows2000 pro. Is there a program that runs that will tell me when I lose my connection? The event log only tells me sometimes when the connections breaks. I'm sure there is a program out there that will keep pinging and let me know when it stops..

I want to be able to match up with zone alarm pro which IP is my ISP using to ping me to renew my address.

thanks!

this sounds like a question for a networking guru
Everybody is taking the Afghan war lightly, but in the meantime the realisation that a full-blown war is in progress creates all the uncertainties (and inevitable surprises) that wars always produce.

You've helped me alot since the time I arrived here, so I atleast owe it to you to get you some help.

From what I know, Zone Alarm seems to have some issues with DSL services that need to refresh their leases every hour. I was having this very dicussion last year in math class trying to help out one of my pals in class. There should be an option with IP's that you've allowed to acess you PC in Zone Alarm, that way, it doesn't block your ISP from refreshing your lease. THe only trouble is that you have to get your ISPs IP addy and add it to your list of trusted IPs in the Zone Alarm settings. As for Win2kPro, I know nothing about it yet, I'll ask aroung.

I don't think that it's that no one will help you,

I think that it's just a tough question you ask.

I know... I was just pouting. I think I found the answer though. If you look in the registry under dhcp, you'll find the address you're looking for. I might make a new post on the subject in the security forum since I spent so much time tyring to figure it out.

That appears to be the only way to find it.

I tryed renewing my IP lease through windows2000 command line: IPconfig/renew

I was unable to renew it. Something is wrong.

Thats exactly what is happening. OTD knows alot about pc's so she can usually solve her own problems herself so the ones she can't solve are difficult to answer. I know how you feel OTD, I go through the samething, people come to me for answers but who do I goto for answers.
