Took it into the shop this morning for some routine maintanance and ended up spending $423 on it

Labor

Labor on Tuneup: $95.20
R/R Fuel Filter: $40.80
Rotate and Balance 4 tires: $32
Adjust Headlights: $34
A/C Service Check: $29.95
Includes: Connect air conditioning gagues, check system pressures, and freon if neccassary, check compressor belt tension, check operartion of compressor, valves and fans, scan system for leaks with halogen leak detector (cost of freon not included in labor)

*All my A/C needed was some freon, it was half low, everything checked out OK

Parts

Spark Plug wire set: $86.24
Dist Rotor: $4.08
Sparg Plug: $39.60
Fuel Filter: $33.36
.5LB freon: $31

Total came out to be: $449.26
I had some coupons which braught my total to: $423.26

OUCH It hurts spending so much money in one place

Especially when you are poor, looking for a job, and living on your own

i need to get new tires for my car. they are bald as all hell and i get a little worried when i go down the freeway at 80 mph. but they are so expensive. oh well. i'll just wait.

Oh and I need to get a timming belt, I bought this car about a year ago, I don't know if the original owner ever changed the timming belt on it, it's got 140,000 miles on it now so i need to get one for safetys sake, don't want my engine to mess up, soooo they quoted me about $250 total to put a timming belt on and stuff...

ouch ouch

im going to have to spend even MORE moneys argh

I had a bad experience with tires, they weren't even bald and all the sudden going down the highway at 80mph i heard this loud pop and then the noise, OH t he noise

i pulled over to the side and all my tread on the left back tire had flown off and wrapped around my axle, all the metal wires were poking out of my tire, i'm lucky it didn't explode on the road at that speed.... that sucked

If you have credit cards then use them or borrow from someone because good tires are extremely important. I have had a blowout at 95mph and if my car wasn't so low it would have flipped and I would have most likely died and it also messed up my front bumber and passenger side fender. You can spend a little cash now or a lot more later.

there's nothing at all wrong with it, this was just regular maintanance stuff..... ther car is after all 8 years old, and a lot of t he stuff in it was ORIGINAL stuff, like the wires and some other stuff, all original, it's increadible it's a very well made car, 140,000 miles and 8 years old and NOTHING major is wrong with it! it's awesome

dang, 80 bucks just for some plug wires?? seems bit expensive, wires and plugs for my car cost like 30 dollars total. your car is 4 cylindar right?

Just gave my mother $200 dollars to put towards her mini van's repairs.

It needs new shocks and probably some brake work.

I drive it every once in awhile so I thought I might help.

Hurts don't it.

what really hurts is fixing it, then having it break down like 2 months after you get it fixed!!! it's hard to find a reputable mechanic shot nowadays too.

i worry about that happening everytime im on the freeway (which is every day). but they arent free and i cant afford them right now, so i just have to wait and prey nothing bad happens to me. how much is it for tires anyways?

i like cars that have the timing belt out of metal or a chain, whatever it is, my is the metal/chain were as my moms is a belt its sucker hers had to be replaced cuz it wore out, mine isnt even close and i have more miles on it.

Depends on what size they are. What kind of car are these tires for? Do you need all 4 or just 2? The tires on your drive wheels are the ones that get eaten up fastest so if you can't get new tires just yet then you should rotate them for now. Another option is to get some used tires, my old car had 205/15/60 tires and brand new they cost about $70-80 each and I got them used for $25 each and they had about 80% tread on them.

Adjust Headlights: $34 <<<<<


that seems like a total rip jip job to adjust your headlights u just turn screw clocwise for beam up 34$ to turn 2 screws! thats crazy i could adjust your headlights in under 1 minute and im not a mechanic.

the only way i could see them charges so much is > if the headlights were the electric flip up type like on transams, feiros and mazda rx7 Tell me what kinda car?

ha u wouldnt want to go to my shop we charge $85/hour and might i make a suggestion when u get the new t-belt installed also put on a new water pump if u havent replaced it lately cause they like to take a crap all the time,especially if u got 140k miles.if u install the t-belt buy your own parts it'll lower the cost and buy geniune toyota parts if u can afford it.OEM is the only way to go.

there are always other options, scrap yards,, bulletin boards at grocery store used section of the paper, or even ask around, I always know one or two people who have a couple tires laying around.

Looks like you got gouged on a couple of items, but all in all, it really isn't that bad. I was once a Parts Manager at a Toyota Dealership and have to agree that if you can afford the genuine replacement parts, you'll be much better off. (Timing Belt +Possible Waterpump) bare in mind, I'm no longer in the business, but the suggestion is still valid!

These are the items that I would do some yelling about:

Labor

Labor on Tuneup: $95.20 > The fuel filter should have
R/R Fuel Filter: $40.80 > been included in tune up labor! Though I bet the labor guide has it seperated as a seperate job.

Parts

Spark Plug wire set: $86.24 > This looks like 2x what they should be.
Sparg Plug: $39.60 > Better be Platinum plugs for that price.
.5LB freon: $31 > R134A is only $7.00 a pound here.

What are they charging per hour for labor where your at?
