Thoughts on this case

My new computer is going to be:
AMD 1.33 266MHz FSB
Abit KG7
256MB DDR PC2100
Philips Acoustic Edge 5.1
Gainward Geforce3
Mitsumi 4805TE CDRW
Maxtor ATA100 7200RPM 40.3GB HD
3Com NIC
Floppy Drive

Now I'm wondering if this case is a good one to get because I can get a good deal with it off of someone I work with. I'm going to get the second fan as well. It is a 250Watt PS but it's high efficiency and the guy I work with said that it will power it (he's set up computers with an AMD chipset and mobo before). My concern is will the 250Watt PS handle it

Juggernaught.. you really would be better off with at least a 300W power supply.. is better for later adding other things.. a ENERMAX 300 or the new 430W would be cool :)

Where could I get one of these minus the PSU?

yep, get at least a 300 watt ps, that's what i have been told from several members here. also, http://www.newegg.com has a good atx case from enlight corp w/ a 300 watt ps. i just purchased the case, and love it.

btw, it cost 50 bucks, not bad for a enlight case.

The Enlight case fans arn't all that loud.

Here's the case I just got for my new setup.

Lot's of room and bays to spare.

I got the 400 watt version for $125 after shipping.

I've seen the 300 watt version for as low as $69.00

Compared to other fans, it will be very quiet. I know that some of the Enermax PSU's have built in thermisitors that control the fan speed, but I don't know if that comes standard with every one.

I'm practically positive that the Enermax PSU is an AMD approved PSU, but you can still check here:

http://www1.amd.com/athlon/power

You might even want to check out the 250watt PSU that comes with that case and see if it is AMD approved. If it is then it will probably also be able to power all of the rest of the things in your computer.

If you feel the need to calculate your necessary wattage to power your computer, this website will help:

Good luck.

Anyway, to answer your question. The Aopen cases are ok and probably a medium build (structurally). I have an Aopen HX08 with a 300 w psu and it seems to hold and power my 4 drives, 1 optical drive, floppy, 3 sticks of ram and 3 fans.

Try and get something with a removal Mobo Tray. Mine has one and it's really a plus.

Thanks for all your suggestions and input...I'm gonna stick with the Enermax 300W tho but the Enermax doesn't come up on the AMD Recommend site...but I know it is a very high quality PS.

Actually, I've got that exact case on my father's comp, and a VERY similar one on this old POS.

Nice, solid, sturdy case. But neither came with ANY cooling (beyond a fan on the PSU), so you might want to look into at least putting SOMETHING in to keep the air moving.

i have that exact same case, the only complaint i have is that it doesn't have enough 3.5 in drive bays, it has 2 that can be floppies or hd's and one that can be a hd only, and then about 3 inches of wasted space till u get down to the fan/internal speaker mount, its also kinda small in the top, hard to get to the back of the top two 5 1/4 drive bays, especially if you have a longer than usual drive in there

Already got a second fan that will go at the bottom of the front case where the mount is. Thanx tho :)

CompGeek83, thanx for the tips

For that computer, go with a 350-400w power supply.

That AOpen is a great case. Many people have performed nice mods on those too. By the way that enermax power supply is very quiet. In fact they have a "whisper" version which you will not hear at all :)
