Need help with setting up cable modem...

Hey...
here's what happened:
I got a nasty set of viruses on my comp, had to use recovery cd's and set everything back up to the 1st day i got the comp. problem is i lost my cable when i did that...ive called the cable tech suppport, they keep bouncing me around to techs that dont know what they are doing, so i need your help. apparently when i goto configure my ip, that little pull down menu is supposed to have something like 'ethernet card' or something in there with 'PPP Adapter.' All there is now is 'PPP Adapter.' What do i need to do? All Help is appreciated

reinstall the drivers then reboot.

Look and see if the NIC card is there (Network adapter)
If all you see in WINIPCFG is ppp adapter the nic card is not installed correctly (drivers).
Get the NIC card working first, then you need some protocols added that likely also got dumped from "Network" in the control panel. Client for Microsoft Networks, TCP/IP etc. It's frustrating to do but no difficult. Keep us posted and Ill keep my eye here for your help needs.

yea reinstall and try (if u have @home) the tools which has a "fixit" thingy

how exactly do i reinstall the drivers? there's a recovery cd labelled 'applications' that the recovery process didnt prompt us for and just said it was 'done.' u think thatll have those drivers on there?

K...Here's an update:
...looks like al lthe drivers are okay and are working properly...but i talked to my friend, who has the same calbe ISP, and he said that the cable tech who installed everything was supposed to leave a white-ish blue-ish box with a cd in it, and he didnt, so he screwed up...soooooooo....
looks like ill be playing a phone gopher role for the next few days
trying to get a hold of someone who can get me the disk

Hi m8,
Evidently you have access to the Internet, thus, go to the manufacture's site for your nic and download the correct driver. This will save you time, unless you just get your giggles from talking on the phone with tech help jugheads. You might also have to unplug your nic and slip back in...reboot..hopefully your machine finds the new hardware. If not reinstall new hardware from the icon in control panel. Either way, the new driver needs to be downloaded first. It will more than likely fit on a floppy in case you are on a 3rd party computer and not the one in jeapordy.
