Re: Sprint Broadband Direct
Re: Sprint Broadband Direct
Does anyone have any experience with Sprint Broadband Direct Wireless? If so, I would like to hear from you. I would especially love to hear from someone from Chicago if they have this or know of anyone who does to see what type of speeds they are attaining at what distances and if they know the whereabouts of the antenna?
I run the one-way Sprint Broadband, dsmsmed. Well actually it was with a local carrier here, WantWeb, before they where bought by Sprint.
I attempted installation of the 2-way service but I shoot into a tree on the other side of the street (just barely below the top of it also!!). I know that 2-way speeds here in Denver run up to 3Mbit down and 256k up. As for me on the one-way service....I get 1.5Mbit down and my normal crappy dial-up for upstream. If I wanted to boom my transciever 15ft off my roof with guide wires I could have the 2-way service easy
Sprint Broadband is highly dependent on line of site, especially for upstream communications. Like I said, I shoot into a tree and have no problems DOWNSTREAM.
I have had the service for about 2 years now and have been very pleased. I rarely have downtime and if I do it's because the transmitting tower in Boulder has been hit by lightning. I always have service in rain, snow, fog, wind, etc. I can tell you though that the Call Center folks that service both the 1 and 2-way service aren't very bright and communication between the NOC in Kansas and my Call Center in Kansas is horrible. I usually tell them about an outage before they know of it.
Overall, the service has been good and reliable. As long as you don't have to rely on the Call Center or have lots of outages in your area you should be happy with it.

This is amazing. Here is a new high speed WAN technology readily available in the 3rd largest metropolitan area in the country (and probably the 1st and 2nd largest) and it seems to hold no interest to anyone? Had asked a question about how some game interfaces with my three year old operating system I would have gotten responces up the ying yang. Am I missing something?

I would like to know some ping times...
I have ordered the sprint wireless in the chicago area, I have cable already and am dissatisfied with the service. Do me a favor and ping a couple servers for me
