first intall file and print sharing from your windows setup, after you install that, you want to share files through your lan, if you are on windows, right click on my network places, then click properties, then click on file and print sharing, and check what you are willing to use then press ok, the press ok again then restart your computer, this allows you to share files and or printers,oh yeah all computers must be on the same workgroup to be able to see files e.g. home network, well if you want to play internet games together just look for a server and both of you join that specific server, or you can setup a lan server, i would recommend installing ipx/spx protocol for lan games, for chatting with each other through lan you have to download a lan talking program like lan talk pro.

So you both have internet access? That would mean TCP/IP is working correctly. Which would mean games should also work well, either head to head, or both at the same time playing on the same public server. As to sharing drives/folders, make sure both computer have the same workgroup name. Also make sure that the 4th component of networking is installed, File and Print sharing. (assuming you have Win9X here). Having NetBEUI makes it easier to setup peer to peer for some people, and some older games like to use IPX too. If you load NetBEUI, it's best to unbind file and print sharing from TCP/IP for security.
Network logon?
