We got our padlock !

Post by Philip »

SpeedGuide, and the forums are moving to a secure "https" variant of the entire site. Please update your links to https:// , and excuse the construction dust while we make sure everything is working properly.

This will help secure all user communications, passwords, as well as prevent your internet activity being monitored by your ISP, or anyone in the middle of a connection. We were planning this for a long time, but we were nudged by the repeal of the FCC online privacy regulations. We've always valued user privacy and security, and SSL simply makes sense, especially with user logins/passwords, and other sensitive info.

Please still try to keep it clean in the General forum.

Oh and MadDoc, sorry if this is not the padlock you were looking for ;)

People will forget what you said... and people will forget what you did... but people will never forget how you made them feel.

I tried that. And Firefox refused to connected. So I had to change the link back to "http:".
Your connection is not secure

The correct location for the forums hasn't been "forums.speedguide.net" for a couple of years now... It is at https://www.speedguide.net/forums/ (we have no SSL certificate for the forums.speedguide.net subtomain, only for www, hence the error).

The issue exists when you try to login to the non-secure variant of the page (i.e. http vs https)... Forced https on forums now, shouldn't happen anymore.

The main site still works in both variants, until everything works 100% over SSL/TLS

Excellent. I was surprised when you didn't jump on it when Let's Encrypt became popular.
So trade that typical for something colorful, and if it's crazy live a little crazy!
