You can send an e-mail to an address that is customized per phone provider, such as...for Verizon....if the phone number is (444)123-4567 you'd send an e-mail to 4441234567@vtext.com

But for a true messaging App on your computer, only one I've seen (but not setup or used) is MightyText.

I know you said you had ATT.

But Verizon has a Web Application.
I would think ATT does as well.

If the number you're trying to text is (555)123-4567, just email to the following addy:

AT&T: 5551234567@txt.att.net
Verizon: 5551234567@vtext.com
T-Mobile: 15551234567@tmomail.net
MetroPCS: 15551234567@mymetropcs.com

I hope this helps :)

Talks about Smartphone App.
So not sure if you HAVE to have it or not.

What are the requirements for using AT&T Messages on the Web from a computer or tablet?

AT&T Messages is available to AT&T wireless customers on the Web from a computer or tablet using an HTML 5–compliant browser. Subscribers must have messaging enabled on their account. AT&T Messages is currently not available to prepaid customers.

As I understand it AT&T lets you text other AT&T numbers off their website. You have to log in.

Curious, why are there 1's for the third and fourth numbers, but not the first or second?

T-Mobile and MetroPCS are on the same network these days, they probably use the same SMS gateways. They just require 1 before the area code in many (not all) markets traditionally, idk.
