I would appreciate any recommendations on a new router to replace my failed Dlink DGL4100 wired router. I do not game but stream audio and video content using my cable broadband connection (15M).I found out everything is wireless now. I would only be interested with a unit which I can use the four 1GHZ LAN ports and would disable the wireless function.

Some popular residential models include the Asus RT series, the Netgear nighthawk models, and DLinks current DIR models.

If you're not going to use the wireless, you can go for a bit cheaper 802.11n router, Asus/Netgear are good, many models have gigabit ports, and there are some decent deals this month.

I am presently using an old Netgear RP114 to get by. It limits my download speed quite a bit. I probably will check out something from Netgear. I had a DLink router and a 1 GiG switch and had the power supplies quit on both and the units lasted for about a year after replacing power supplies.

I plug my clients network gear into a smaller APC battery UPS....all residential grade hardware have delicate power supplies that don't live long under brown outs. I see all brands fail.

Settled on a Netgear AC1200 for $59.00. I will likely turn off the radio and just use the 1 GIG lan ports.

Just an update, the Netgear AC1200 was easy to configure with its GUI. My thru put has gone from 6 MBPS to 17 MBPS(download) by replacing my old Netgear RP114. Not a bad investment considering I am paying for 15 MBPS internet service.

And while power supplies may fail, they're cheap to replace. And most of the time the router is still good.
