Att Modem/Router and gigabit switch

Post by reyes136 »

I have a ATT 10/100 modem/router it has 4 ports on it I go from 1 port to a 8 port gigabit switch. The ATT router does all the DHCP server and a bunch of port forwarding for internal and external systems. I have all my internal networked computers pluged into the 8 port switch along with my backup and dvd server. My question is Since the ATT 10/100 is running the show for DHCP and port Forwarding does this slow down my gigabit connected computers? I know when any of my computers go out to the internet they only are at the 10/100, but my internet speed is only 12M so i'm not worried about that, its just the internal network I want all my computers to run at gigabit speeds for the backups and Media sharing.

Thanks

Nope not slowing it down. You want your LAN plugged into the fastest switch, and your router uplinked to that switch. Which sounds like that's what you have.
If you need better port forwarding and router options....get a biz grade router..and put it in DMZ Plus mode on the AT&T gateway (which effectively bridges the gateway into a modem)
