IE9 Security Option - enable mixed content

I was plagued by the alerts at the bottom of my browswer screen asking me if I wanted to view unsecured content on a site. I found the switch in the security options but I'm not sure if by disabling this content I'll be missing something from various sites or how exactly this item should be set. Suggestions? Mixed content yes or no?
