Question about BIOS password.

Post by Gixxer »

Does a BIOS battery in the laptop work the same way a PC battery does in that if you remove it for five minutes or so it will erase a BIOS password? Thanks for any help you can provide.

yes, unless its an ata password, that is stored on the harddrive and will follow the hard drive, common on laptops. But if it is just a standard bios password, Yes it will reset

No. You have to contact the manufacturer for a reset code/key combo or use a third party tool in most cases.

Been through this a few times. If you don't have/know the password its cheaper to toss the hard drive and buy a new one. The HD manufacturers won't give you any backdoor passwords even if they have any and the third party way is a lot more expensive than just buying a new HD.

Yes, I didn’t know that about laptops either. This has been an informative thread.
