Been using Debian for last 4 years, Ubuntu is nice, but has too much bloat & branding for my liking. I install Debian with no software and then build my systems up from there with just the packages I want. I did try out the beta of this latest Ubuntu though because Xubuntu uses the most recent XFCE, which has some nice new changes.

It's actually faster compared to the previous versions of Ubuntu. Comparing Gnome as the primary desktop manager. There is also the new "unity" desktop manager which seems to be geared towards laptops.. or a "touch pad" feel.

Some Linux people do not like Ubuntu because it comes with a set of pre-set packages, however the distro has more updates and support over all then the majority of distro's that I have seen.

Also to note... that you need a supported card that has acceleration enabled, to use that "unity" desktop manager..

..but that does not really bother me too much, as I usually use Gnome, and Blackbox instead. Accessing streaming videos from sites like Hulu and Crackle seems a lot faster.

Ubuntu 11.04 does run on my Acer laptop including the Wifi, but I still have to see how the power management is in regards to the battery usage. If things looks good, I'll replace Vista, with it for certain.

Sounds like needed drivers missing. Any wifi can be made to work on Linux, just need to know which drivers and/or firmware.
