DirectX Update

Post by Sava700 »

Going to just leave the thread named as it is..cause when I search too many others are popping up so we can just use this one.

For some reason, the directx End-user runtime web installer was updated yesterday... Not sure of changes

Version: 9.29.1973
Date: 11/30/2010

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/d ... laylang=en

I didn't see anything load after running it but always good to have latest versions of stuff like this. :)

Considering the lack of change logs with these updates why bother having a thread for it?

yeah I thought of that before posting but I have a feeling there is a update coming in the next few days, and I've managed to dig up change logs before. At the end of the day doesn't hurt to have one dedicated to it.

DirectX setup has determined that a newer or equivalent version of DirectX has been installed. No installation is necessary.

I haven't updated DirectX in quite some time? Maybe all it adds is the bing toolbar? No redistributable either, hm.
I don't know the same things you don't know.

I don't know if you've run that web setup file, but it does ask you if you want to install the "Bing Bar". I assume thats the Bing search Toolbar? I declined, maybe thats why nothing installed?

The bing toolbar is in everything. You must be up to date. If they require you to get the bing bar for updating lots of complaints will fly in fast.

Yeah I know, I was just kidding around with my last statement. It's annoying though, that &%$#*@ *&^%"ing Google toolbar is bundled with just about everything on the net except Microsoft Downloads. I guess Microsoft was feeling left out so now they're going to bundle Bing with all their stuff. :irate:  :wth:

The toolbar thing is crap so yeah I agree, but I think just the installer was updated and is even smaller than the older version in file size.

I download the redistributable when available, so I almost never run the web update version. I have the last version saved to a thumb drive so I'll be using that until this sorts itself out. God I hate having those freaking toolbars bundled with stuff. :irate:

Usually I'd defend the toolbar option as a means to pay for a program being free, but with this being MS and Direct X I have to say it really shouldn't be there as well.
