Hey all

I have a question about my DIR 615 Wireless router.. Is it possible to unplug the router(no on/off switch) when gone away from home for extended periods and not worry about losing the connection settings on it?

I have DSL with AT&T\BellSouth (768k service) and a Dlink DSL2540B modem.

Am new to this DSL stuff and am worried about the little heat that the router gives off might wear the router out sooner than normal

It'll remember the last settings it had when powered up again.

No matter how long it was unplugged for?

I would think it should, the clock/time may be off a little. You can save your settings if you like. Log in and go to Tools, System. Then use the "Save To Local Hard Drive" option to save your settings to a file on your PC. Then if you do a firmware update or ever have to reset it you can just load them back in.

99% of the time..yes....within reason. I'd guess after a few thousand years something might happen to it where it fails to work. But I've had routers put away as backups or shelved for a couple of years, go and plug them back in..and they still have their old settings. It's saved in the flash when you "apply/save" settings.

Yes it will save them indefinitely.

It commits user configurable variables to non volatile ram (aka NVRAM), which is just like a usb flash drive or SD card.

You can always save the config script to a computer from the 615's Web administration.
