I didn't think this would be a problem, but I added a Dial-up for faxing and my cable modem could no longer work. Surfboard sb3100
with 3com nic. Tech support from Zoom said
this could cause conflicts, and they checked it out from their end. Seems I could ping in Dos an I.P but could not ping a www.whatever.com--they said I could not resolve the DNS. Sureley you can have a cable modem and a Dial-up on the same system?
Anyone else have both connections? Any Ideas?
I went 4 days without connection, and had to restore my c:drive with Drive Image Pro. So now my setting are back and all works, but no Dial-up.

I had a similar problem, my wife wanted to use aol for e-mail and "we" also had a DSL modem "via NIC" after installing the aol it would knock out the DSL modem. The techs (most of them but not all) didn't know their @#$%$ from a hole in the ground. The way I got around the problem was to uninstall the cable modem THEN install the fax program then reinstall the cable modem =)

Forget about faxing from your computer. Go to J2.com. If you use your computer for business/travel you will think it's Christmas morning. They have a list of features regarding voicemail and faxing as long as your arm. The prices are a joke (cheap).

sounds like a prob with which protocals are being bound to which adapter. Id try reinstalling the dialup then check your network settings to ensure that the protocals are bound to the correct adapters.


To dsmed-if your spouse wants to use aol(why im not sure but to each there own) just use www.aol.com in fact you can keep your aol screennames(email addresses) and just do all via the website and not use them as your isp for I think it is 3-4 dollars a month. That way you dont have to install that terribly intrusive aol software onto your system.
