Building new PC
I'm putting together a new tower. It's been almost seven years now.
Looking for feedback.
Already have most of the parts now. It took 8 weeks so far cause i'm not a rich man. But once you buy the mobo, your committed.
CPU...Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 Quad-Core Socket LGA 775, 2.66GHz, 1333 Mhz FSB, 6MB L2 Cashe, 45nm(BXX80580Q9400)
MOBO...Asus P5Q-E Socket 775 Intel P45 + 1CH10R Chipset Dual-Channel DDR2 1200/1066/800/667MHz Dual Gigabit LAN 8-Channel High Definition Audio 2 x PCI Express 8x SATA 3Gb/s
RAM...8 gigs of OCZ 1066. Thought about the 1200, but heard it was wiggy.
HD...2 x 750 GB and 2 x 400 GB Sygate barricudas SATA
DVD...LG SATA, no lightscribe
CPU FAN...Thermaltake CL-P0401 V1 Cooler
P/S...Silencer 750W, I hear the OCZ 1000W P/S are not true 1000W.
Case...NZXT, LEXA Blackline(Classic Series), RED. Gonna remove the back protector panel, gay.
Now all I need to get is Windows Vista Ultimate 64. Mobo sais I need it. Also need a video card. I like the BFG's. The MOBO book sais using ATI crossfire, I can have 3 video cards. 1 x PCI Express x16 and 2 x PCI Express x1.
So the dilema is, whats the first vid card to get. Do I start with a 1 gigger, or just get 3 x 512's???

I put together a system with the P5Q-E and have been very happy with it (see SIG). I'm in the process of installing Vista 64 bit on a second HD to try Vista out. XP Pro has been running fine.

just a note about high density ram, I've personally had some stability issues on 3 various machines with different makes for all the ram, but same boards. My recommendation is to go for 1 gb sticks if you want better stability. imho.

I went with the 1066 ram cause I heard the 1200 was wiggy. Was going to get an OCZ 1000W P/S, but I heard that was not true wattage. It does not even put out 800W. Got a Silence 750W instaed.
I finally got my Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit O/S. I just finished installing it and drivers, and the Internet works! Funny how some old proggies are having trouble running. But I got the Internet to help me figure it out.
Going to install Folding@home now. I really want to see this rig crunch some #'s. The dual video cards are awesome. Now I have to save for new monitors, still running 17" NEC's. At least the longer it takes, the cheaper it gets. Prices are dropping
