A Question on System Configuration with Faster Ram added?

Post by Sting »

Hi,

I have another question for the more advanced on my system configuration; maybe someone could help me out?

I’ve been presently using 1 gig. of: DDR2 667 (PC2-5300) Ram on my system. I wanted to upgrade and add another gig. My PC can also use DDR 2 800 (PC2-6400), so I’m going to remove the stick of 667 and install 2 Gig. of 800. If I install the 667 with the 800, it doesn’t make much sense, since your system will run at the slower speed. Now my question:

My PCIE Clock is set at 100MHz, and my CPU clock at 200MHz. Do I have to change these settings to correspond with the faster running Ram that I’m now going to use? My processor is a: AMD Athlon (tm) XP 64x2 Dual Core 2.2, my motherboard is a generic one made by Jetway, and my O.S. is XP.

Any help would be appreciated?

Thanks for your time,

John

the ram will run at whatever speed you tell it to. Even if you buy ddr2-800 and put it into your system, it'll still run at ddr2-667 for the front side bus. The only reason you would want to remove the other piece of ram is because you are having stability issues with it.
I recommend you just leave it in.
