Can I benefit from TCP Opt?

Post by TopHat »

hello, I was going through a nice website helping to optimize my computer, and this program was listed! I'm a little confused by the 20mb limit on the slider, since my tests show me being over 20mb?
Can I still benefit from the Optimizer? I use ZoneAlarm for a firewall, and Here's my info stuff:

What is your OS. modem make and model. What ISP are you using and what is your advertized download speed? Using PPoE or PPoa? Don't worry if you don't know, but the more information you can give will help the experts better help you

I'm using Windows XP Service Pack 3
Modem is Arris, Model:TM502G
I'm using Cox Communications, and not sure exactly what plan I'm signed up for, oddly enough from those two tests I'm getting WAY more then advertised, which would be either:
Downstream/Upstream
1.5 Mbps/384 Kbps
or
8 Mbps/768 kbps
which is whats on the website based on our billing plans. Also included in our package is "PowerBoost" which sounds like fluff, but hey it could be whats giving me the insane numbers haha.

PPoE/PPoa I have no clue about.

I see that trogers is working with you. He and rollingstone are probably the best at helping to tweak. Be sure that when you go to apply settings that Backup is checked before you you click ok. This will save your present settings so you can go back to them.

Not sure what is going on. Cox advertises 1.5, 8, and 12 Mbps for Nevada. PowerBoost should only increase that by about 30% if you are doing a large download and bandwidth is availible.
Really don't want to rain on your parade, but not sure how accurate the speedtest is because you are still on Cox's fiber network. Might want to try LA or Dallas and see if being off Cox's network changes anything

My trained 1536/928 dsl is only getting 1350/760, which is considered good for dsl.

OK so I tried the actual Speedguide.net speed test, and also used Speedtest.net again, this time picking New York. I re-tested to get a close result from same time of day:

BEFORE Trogers TCP suggestion:
(Tampa, Florida this test is hosted it says?)

AFTER Trogers TCP suggestion, 20 minutes apart around.:

Wow download boosts all around! Makes me wonder how I'm getting so much on this plan/modem, very very interesting ^^
the TCP analyzer page isn't working when I click it. Let me know if you would like to see one at a later time. ^^
