MEDIA ADVISORY : M08-089

NASA to Announce Success of Long Galactic Hunt

WASHINGTON -- NASA has scheduled a media teleconference Wednesday, May 14, at 1 p.m. EDT, to announce the discovery of an object in our Galaxy astronomers have been hunting for more than 50 years. This finding was made by combining data from NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory with ground-based observations.

No clue, but I think they'll tell us on the 14th.

I'm gonna go with a black hole. Center of the galaxy, and a big one at that.

Unless its a planet of unlimited 87Octane gas and we can get to it in a easy way, then doesn't really matter much.

Double post so sue me....

I'm going with a Dyson Sphere which is way more cooler than a black hole which has already been confirmed by Chandra...Sagittarius A anyone?

My theories:

First contact of intelligent life via radio signal
Discovery of a BIG black hole
Discovery of an earth-like planet
Discovery of life or remnants of intelligent life on the moon or Mars
Discovery of another planet in our own solar system (Nibiru/Nemesis/Planet X)
Discovery of another earth-like planet in a nearby solar system
Discovery of the actual boundary at the end of the universe
Something to do with Dark Matter/ Energy
Possibly something to do with gravitational waves/lensing

First contact of intelligent life via radio signal - would love it, but they'd never announce it.

Discovery of a BIG black hole - this is very probable.

Discovery of an earth-like planet - maybe.

Discovery of life or remnants of intelligent life on the moon or Mars - I don't think they'd tell this one either.

Discovery of another planet in our own solar system (Nibiru/Nemesis/Planet X) - dunno.

Discovery of another earth-like planet in a nearby solar system - maybe.

Discovery of the actual boundary at the end of the universe - nah.

Something to do with Dark Matter/ Energy - nope.

Possibly something to do with gravitational waves/lensing - possible.

Hey Brent - what do you think is gonna happen when those "fun loving wacky guys" over at CERN turn on their new atom smasher in August?

to announce the discovery of an object in our Galaxy astronomers have been hunting for more than 50 years
Keyword: object
Searched for since approx 1950 onward

Logically, a search for an object would be based upon some factual evidence that such an object exists OR was proposed to exist in some theory. Reaearch space theories and evidences of the 50's and you'll likely figure out what they will announce. Remember, we had no space probes then, only various telescopes, radio transmitters and receivers.

Are you serious? Cause if you know what a Dyson Sphere is, then you know just how unbelievably unlikely it is. I mean come on, completely enclosing a star in solar power collecting panels to harness its' power?
And it's already been confirmed? This means life outside our solar system has been confirmed. Funny, I never heard that announcement.

The discovery was also made using the Chandra X-Ray facility. I doubt that instrument would be able to detect a planet with Earth-like conditions. And if it is a black hole in the center of our galaxy you're damn right it's going to matter.

Remember what I said about our solar system aligning with the center gravitational plane in December of 2012. Now imagine if they have found a massive black hole at the center of our galaxy like most have thought to be there.

We could have a massive pull on the earth and the planet may have a pole reversal. Not good at all.

The pole reversal is already in progress, it is happening now

Yes there has been some evidence of that but most has been linked to the mega quake that rocked the earth in 2004, As it tilted right after that. In 2012 they fear a total magnetic reversal or even a physical one causing everything that will not work in reverse polarity to go boom.

Do you know how unlikely life is? So why would a Dyson Sphere be so far fetched???

But still, my guess is just cooler than the thought of a boring black hole. Black holes are so last century.

I'm hoping for maybe the discovery of an Earth-like planet, or at least, life sustaining as we know it. But it is the word "object" they use that makes me wonder, and the fact they've been hunting it for so long. It could also be an asteroid that is to collide with Earth.

Should Hillary become President, I would welcome that option.

I think it's most likely going to be related to supermassive blackholes. I thought they were already positive that most galaxies have one at the centre, in the active galactic nucleus though. Maybe this is just verification?

My prediction?
A comet that was said to have passed by here long ago and is not slated for passby for a long long time, but its existence has now been verified.

Also, any discovery af major major importance would NOT be delayed and announced at a post dated press conference, it would be announced almost immediately to the scientific community.

A keyword here, do you know there are certain species that live in natural rivers of sulphuric acid, I would even say thrive, here on earth. I believe life is adaptable to much more than we are aware of or think is capable.

Ha, your all wrong! They are announcing the largest asteroid found to date heading straight for us. Were all doomed, we'll never make it.

Oh massive, planet destroying asteroid, please make your way to earth in the next 10 years. :D
