Internet access for one user but not others
Internet access for one user but not others
Hello, I built my friend a computer several years ago and he has come up with a problem that I don't understand. He is running Win XP with 3 different users that have admin rights. His provider is suddenlink (formerly cox). They are using the modem supplied by their isp. The problem is that only one user (their daughter) has access to the internet. The other users cannot log on. Thanks for any help in solving this issue, artman
Sounds like you are using a USB modem supplied by your ISP and not a router.
A USB modem connects to your ISP through its driver and connection program installed into your comp. If these are installed while logged on under the name of 1 username, they may not run under other usernames. Try re-installing the driver and connection program for all users.
A better way is to get a router between your comp and the modem. The router will give you a hardware firewall and the internet connection can be left 'always on'.
If you need info about routers. post a new thread in the Router section of our forum.

I get an error on that link, but basically try power cycling the modem and see if that works, if so, then a router will fix it.
