Okay, I'm sorry that this guy passed before his time, but oh my geezus, I HATED his music. A friend of mine was a huge Fogelburg fan, and he'd play his music in the car, I had no way to escape. Then he'd follow up a Fogelburg song with a Buffet song, just to make we writhe in agony.

Pulling out well-worn soapbox:

White, male, over 50 - PSA test once a year.

Non-white, or with a family history of Prostate cancer, start at 40.

It will save your life - it saved mine.

I like the cold metal serrated probe up the butt myself... but a PSA is good from time-to-time.

RIP Dan......

Do prostate specfic antigen (that even right?) tests involve the dreaded finger up the bung? I really do not enjoy that aspect of a doctors visit, I get probed often enough because of my ulcer(s) and don't want the docs to have another reason to fingerbang my butt.

Three possibilities:

1) finger (2" to 8" depending on the doctors long or short finger).
2) non-flexible probe with optics for quick look up the first 10" of butt.
3) flexible (put you under with good drugs) and up to the end of the large intestine looking for abnormalities.

While those tests can be fun, they are usually reserved for colorectal issues.

The PSA is a blood test.

You usually get the finger up the butt in addition, but the doctor can only feel about 30% of the prostate, and can miss little tumors is the area that he/she (think smaller fingers) can reach.

I had no indication on the manual test. Mine showed up as a slightly elevated PSA.

It is epidemic. I have one friend dead, two dying, and a whole bunch of folks that have survived without too many complications. Old age ain't wonderful.

Whether or not you liked his music it takes a real man to pose on a couch like this:
