Several fans held up asterisk signs and Bonds was booed as he headed to left field at the end of the inning.

I don't know if many people are doubting that Bonds is (or was) a great ballplayer, but many of us are quite saddened that a solid hitter has left a black mark on his own record by (allegedly) 'roiding up.downhill wrote:Even though I'm not convinced that his enhancing drugs actually give him more eye to hand coordination in actually helping him hit the ball, that record will be forever tarnished.

There is nothing allegedly about it. It's already been proven that he used steroids. Barry's argument though is that he had no idea he had.Jim wrote:I don't know if many people are doubting that Bonds is (or was) a great ballplayer, but many of us are quite saddened that a solid hitter has left a black mark on his own record by (allegedly) 'roiding up.
right! did Hank Aaron do the enhancing drugs?downhill wrote:Yep, I happen to agree with that. I was only making a comment showing the other side of the coin. IMHO, even though I did comment on his ability to find the ball, I suppose I should also mention that if indeed it's shown that he's really doing enhanching drugs, and it looks like that's a given, then your more than right, that record is tarnished. After all, it would still give him an advantage in swinging hard and even prolong his involvment in the game, thus giving him more time to pursue the record.
Why bother - the sport sucks.Blisster wrote:BASEBALL PLAYERS TAKE STEROIDS???? SAY IT ISNT SO!!!!![]()

His supporters still throw out the fact that Mr. Bonds has still yet to fail a single drug test.Roody wrote:There is nothing allegedly about it. It's already been proven that he used steroids. Barry's argument though is that he had no idea he had.![]()
I agree, but man he is definitely guilty. You ever read Book of Shadows. The crap they got on him is mind blowing. The sad thing is Barry had amazing talent even before he started using that crap. Sure he likely wouldn't have broken the record had he not taken the stuff, but he could have easily gone down as the greatest player in my generation for sure. Unfortunately, he chose to put that in question when he started doing that crap.Jim wrote:His supporters still throw out the fact that Mr. Bonds has still yet to fail a single drug test.
Don't get me wrong, I believe Bonds knowingly took the stuff, but without more proof, his record will stand.
I'm sure Giamatti has been rolling in his grave more than a few times over this issue alone.
Agreed.Jim wrote:All I want for Christmas: An asterisk, and a vow from the BBWAA never to elect Bonds into the Hall of Fame.
EDIT: And yes, I did read the book and wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone with an interest in baseball. Not that this stuff hasn't gone on in the past, but crap like this is why my interest in the sport is only a tiny fraction of what it was in the 80's and (pre-strike) 90's.
The steroid era brought fans back. Hallowed records fell, heroes and anti-heroes roamed the ballparks, the excitement returned to the game. Sadly, it was a lie.Jim wrote:All I want for Christmas: An asterisk, and a vow from the BBWAA never to elect Bonds into the Hall of Fame.

not sure about griffey, but arod should take this over sooner or laterIndy wrote:Hopefully Alex Rodriguez or Ken Griffey Jr. will come along down the road and blow by him like he was standing still, nulifying his so-called record.
Barring an injury I agree.Gixxer wrote:not sure about griffey, but arod should take this over sooner or later

I admit I would like to have seen Hank Aaron keep the record, but I won't slam a milestone until he comes up guilty (as likely as it seems).
No one disputes that, but it's already been proven that Bonds used steroids. He got away with it though because there was no specific laws prohibiting it's usage at the time in MLB. Barry Bonds is 100% guilty of using it. That has already been shown.Comtrad wrote:Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty?

Even without being blessed with any sort of clairvoyance, it was obvious to me from the start that half of these record-breakers were simply shams, and the MLB was not going to get in their way since they were filling the ballparks again.David wrote:The steroid era brought fans back.
