Been outta the CPU game for a while, actually not been paying much attention to the 64's at all. Seems that my cpu is starting to bottleneck my games and such. What is the best VALUE 939 CPU? I was looking at the dual cores but don't know if i would take advantage of them or not. Been doing okay so far with single cores. I figured a single core 1 meg cache might be better than dual 512'ers.....
opinions pleasE?
thanks

Best Value is kinda tough, but I think your right to want the 1mb cache over the 512k
Now I see 2 options,
A64 4000+ single core with 1MB cache 290
or
opteron 165 denmark, dual core, 1MB cache on each core 327
On a budget, and gamming oreinted, I would say the 4000+ would do you well, but as I've had this X2, I cant live without dual core now, but the 2nd one doesnt help with gamming hardly at all at this point.

the Dual core equivalent to the FX-60 or 4000
depending on your cash flow for it.. if you want top notch go with the FX-60

well my X2 2.2 goes to 2.7 and thats 2 cores of 2.7
dual core isnt a big help now at all but games will be made to use it adn nvida is already experimenting with taking advantage through software.
dont forget you can select to runn all your other stuff liek virus scanner, aim, xfire, junk like that on core 2, and the game will use core one, but its really nice for browsing the web, compressing audio, burning a CD, all at once.
if thats not worht the 60 or 70 bucks more, grab the 4000+ and you should get a decent OC out of it.

Whoa! $30 to go from a 3800 single core to a x2 3800! That's crazy good value. Can't wait till the price drop.

If you are planning to start a fresh system, the AM2 interface has provided with a surprising boost in performance. Evidentally that DDR2 makes quite the difference.
Of course, you could purchase a conroe.
