Ethernet problem Westell 6100

Post by jbille »

I have a Westell 6100 modem used for my DSL connection. I have always had it hooked up via USB cord so I could use my ethernet port to network to another computer. I recently purchased a WRT54G linksys wireless router and a WUSB54GC Compact Wireless-G USB Adapter. In order to hook up this router it requires you to hook up an ethernet cable going from the modem to the router, and then ethernet to the computer. However I can't get the ethernet to work. I tried to just connect the modem to the computer via ethernet, without even hooking the wireless router up, and I can't even get that to work. If someone could help me I would be very grateful. Thank you.

jb, not sure why my earlier response didnt post... hmmm. in nay case, connect your closest pc to the westell modem via ethernet.
- depending on your dsl isp... open your brower (IE) to enter your default dsl modem addr (e.g., 192.168.1.254). If applicable, enter the login admin login and password. Also, the modem should query you for your internet login and pwd. You should now be online.

For more instructions, pls provide your internet provider, westell modem model number & your PC operating systems (e.g., WinXP, Win2000, etc)..

P2E

and use the wireless ad

I don't know if this will help you or not but you can also go to http://www.linksys.com/check and it will walk you through the entire setup of your router to your system. I've tried it several times and it does work quite well.
