Please see my sig for my setup.

AMD x2's are supposed to be king multitaskers, yet that seems to be something I CAN'T do with this syetm

All bios settings are at default

The system is slow to start. If I run World of Warcraft along with photoshop, and god forbid opena browser window and aim or whatever other small dinky things, I face random PC reboots.

Is there anything I can run to see where things may be going wrong? Can i list my bios options and maybe you guys can recommend settings? I know the ram is fine, i had it running in my past setup. The only thing I kept from my old system is the hard drive and ram. Every other part is new.

If you open task manager and click the performance tab, does it look like this:

I would also down Speedfan which can be found here... http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php and check to see what yout cpu and ambient temps are. This could also be a problem due to high temps.

Need a bios update probably.

Exactly. Did you install the X2 into an exisiting Windows setup? If you previously had a single-core CPU, you probably don't have the multi-CPU support. That means a reformat or at least a reinstall as far as I know.

Open up My Computer > Device Manager > Computer and see if it says ACPI Uniprocessor PC or MULTIprocessor PC.

just right clicking my computer and looking at the specs should tell him if it's been recognized otherwise it'll show as a generic AMD

Doesnt need to format, I think a repair works, maybe even just uninstall teh uniprocessor driver.

I had to flash the bios on my DFI board when i first got it to receognize the dual core

Yes it basically looks liek that. This is also a fresh istall of windows. And yes My Computer recognizes it as a dual core.

ah and by the way the mobo has its bios up to date.

2K and XP will roll with the flow like that, NT 4 needed major surgery.

mem voltage? turn it up to 2.7 or 2.8v. we need more information.. what kind (brand/model) of 550watt psu? is there something else wrong (bad ram?), etc..lots to look at here.

Admittedly its a no name PSU. I'm going to buy another one. And really theres nothing wrong with any part so far, except maybe that psu could just be the culprit.

what is the default timings of that corsair memory ? maybe you need to set them manualy in the bios instead of useing the auto settings.

try running memtest86 from a boot floppy to test the ram, check the power supply with a digital multimeter, software readings can be wrong.

maybe post some screenshots of your bios settings.

well, that'd be my guess, but i can't claim to know for sure. good luck with it, post with results and we'll brainstorm some more

check the ram with memtest as mentioned and see if you can get into the bios to read off the psu numbers...3.3 rail +5 rail and +12 rail....if those numbers stray a good bit from what they should be then that could be your problem.

OK guys here are some screenshots from my bios. Everything is at default here. Can anyone take the time to explain what would be some good settings to try?

OK well I know the corsair ram I have is rated at 2-2-2-6-T1

However I don;t know which of those settings relate to what numbers.

have you tried doing this, i did this when i first got my dual core, it may help.

speak of the devil just did that this afternoon hehe.

see that 1T/2T timing? change it to 1T..should be a big performance boost. set DIMM voltage to 2.7v.
