Called tech support recently (road runner).
Tech said he wanted to look at behaviors on the PC side of the modem, but could not do so because of Zonealarm. Asked me to stop Zonealarm. Exercised caution, disconnected the router, and cabled the modem directly into the PC.
So the question, in a case such as this, if I had killed Zonealarm and left the router in the network, would he have been able to detect it?
Also, the tech said they are able to look at history files in the modem (panasonic pcx1100u). Uhhhhh, just exactly are they able to see? Furthermore, how can I look at the history files and/or clear them?
Thanks, Susan J.
Can my cable company tech support see my linksys router?
They are I use roadrunner but when they check your modem they perfer to have the modem connect straight to the computer. Are you sure thats not a toshiba modem? If your modem checks out fine. Then they can blame your router. Plus they do not support routers. You are a loud to have one. But they will not give tec support on it or any other networking for home owners. The only networking they support are business. If you think its your router call the manufacter. GoodLuck!
You will also find out if you get tec three most of them don't support zonealarm, There reason is is messes thier sytem up. They tell you to use sygate or another firewall you can open the DHCP server to. I have heard this about a quit a few times when I called them about problems.

:nod:Have A Nice Day!!!!!!!!!

They can see the router if they bother to look, most of the software is designed to look for extream useage. Not how many. If you have 2 or a hundread computers as long as the usage is not on the top users list you should be fine.... As for the modem information that we can see. this is strictly to the modem. All of the docsis modems have this ability. Not all MSO give out the information. It gives us information such as the power lvl for transmiting. packet loss, signal to noise. The most this can tell us about your computer is that it was on or off.
