My aunt recently got jury duty, but the thing is that she currently lives in NY. The mail for jury duty came to the house where she lived in while in California. Some of her family lives there, and they are the ones who got the mail for jury duty. My question is basically can the letter be ignored? Is there any punishment in doing so?
just have her call the court house and tell them what you just told us.. they will remove her most likely.. see when selection is done its usually like 40+ people for a 12 person thing and they go through a selection process.
I forgot to say that she lives in another country, but she came to NY to do business. Her relative in California called her about the summons, but my aunt is going back to her country within 5 days. Should she still call them and explain her situation, or should she ignore it?

Some California Counties (Mine) are starting crack down on just tossing the letter. Now if you don't respond they summons you before the court to explain yourself. If your now living out of state, no problem, just as said above, just let them know of the address change and your done.
No she can not get in any trouble. If she has extra time she can call the COC and explain she no longer lives in the county. It can be ignored also and they will find out either when the records they drew against get updated or the policeman serving the warrant finds out she doesn't live there anymore.
