working from home now, need to share DSL line

Post by maroon »

Right now my setup is: DSL modem -> Sonicwall firewall -> work computer.

If I need to use my home computer I just switch the output from the DSL modem to my home computer's ethernet card. I'm looking for a more permanent solution, lol, and the IT guy at work tells me I need to buy a switch and put it downstream of the Sonicwall firewall then run separate cables from the switch to the home and work computers.

Is this the best way to configure this setup? and I was looking at getting a Netgear FS605 10/100 fast ethernet switch to share the connection. Will that be okay?

Thanks!

A switch will work just fine... (assumming Bridge DSL modem) and the Sonicwall firewall also has a local DHCP server within it.
.

Verizon 3000/768 DHCP DSL:
Download Speed: 2802 kbps (350.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 717 kbps (89.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
