Would be neat to see the GN come back...but not with that ugly platform from Pontiacs failed attempt at reviving the Goat. :nope:

I was so close to buying one new around 84 or 85 :irate: I wish I would have gotten one. It was an awesome car.

Yup! Clean and lean looking. Great sounds from those dual large diameter pipes too. Had the title for fastest 0-60 American made production car...then Corvette went to Callaway for a special edition which took the title back..then Buick came out with a special "GNX" version which took the title back yet again.

When I was dabbling with law enforcement...a friend of mine who was a patrolman in a neighboring town got to take a ride in a special version which the CT State Police were using...they took off the speed limiter (which I think was set for 124 on production cars)....took it for a fast drive up a long highway nearby...he said he has never ridden in a car which kept up the acceleration as much as this car did...kept your back pressed into the seat...60...80...120...130..140...they had to letup since they ran out of room on this straighaway...but the car wasn't letting off yet.

Only thing I always wondered about with the GNs...how long they'd last..after all, a 3.8L V-6...it was pretty stressed out with the hairdryer.

The motors were stout, and it only got better after the years. The 3.8L has been around a long time. The Series 1-2-3 Supercharged motors are damn near bulletproof.

I saw this thread and thought oh it would just be a GTO they'd use, not even that much though lol

No man, not at all. 3.8 liters is HUGE displacment for FI purposes. If the block and heads are prepped for FI then it's all good. Turbo/supercharged engines actually have an easier duty cycle, especially turbos. The torque/hp curves "ease" in on turbos and don't have the massive sudden torque twist of NA engines. Superchargers are slotted in between NA and turbo on that front.

Just remember that a 2 liter can crank out 400 horsies for 30+k miles with no real problems, then a 3.8 outta be able to go for at least twice that...right?

Mid to late 80s F1 cars managed 1200-1500 hp out of 1.5 liter lumps, for around 2 hours/200 miles. Granted some serious strengthening and such and asanine turbo pressures were needed, but the basic principal is there. Build the block/heads for FI and engine durabiity does not degrade all that much.
