Ok.....here it goes...I love Win2k and all---it detects everything(even the ethernet card)but, the NIC adapters that i have---have no drivers for Win2k on the Microsoft HomeClick software....i can't even find drivers anywhere on the net...what the hell do i do.right now i have ME and win2k...In ME, I can use the internet perfectly(cause i have the drivers). Right now i have cable service with roadrunner and currently running on Linksys router 4-port. Do i need to set a proxy?what do i do?

ME drivers are built in the 9x Kernal, 2000 Drivers are built on the NT kernal, two in-compatible driver sets

If there are no Win2k drivers for your device yet then you are Flat Outta Luck

You *might* be able to force Win NT 4.0 drivers on it in 2K IF they even have drivers for it in that OS, but that is iffy still, it may not work

If it don't without having Win2k Drivers specifically for it you are out of luck

I think you may be out of luck w/the 450kit. I looked this up for someone on another thread, and what I found by digging through the 3com knowledge base, is this card (3C450) is NOT supported under Win2K- I have posted the old thread below.

Well, finally I think I found an answer for you, and I'm afraid it's not good. If you go to 3Com's website www.3com.com , you can choose to search their knowledgebase. They will require you to give them tons of personal info before granting you access (btw- this annoys the s**t out of me- why do they need my phone number (another fake) to let me look for help??). Anyway, in their knowledge base when you search for 3C450, it brings you to a list of probs/solutions. The 1st one on the list is "where are the latest drivers?" When you scroll down the list of responses, you get to this:



Basically, they tell you the drivers they supply are on the CD. They include what they include, and that's it. If you're using anything else (ie: Win2000)... tough! And there are absolutely no other drivers anywhere on their website for these cards. they also are not listed on the MS HCL. This sucks! If I owned a couple of these, I'd be really pi**ed.

So, sorry, but that's why W2K won't discover your NIC properly, and never will. Guess you need to buy a couple new ones.

I bet you won't buy 3Coms!!

I myself got a Intel Pro 100+ Managment adapter because:

1) Plug and Play in Windows 2000
2) Butt load of driver features
3) 6K on die cache

I have a 3com 3c450-KIT. That is the model number on the box.

Arggh 3com's site is such a bloated POS anyway looks as though that is a home networking kit so the model #3c450-KIT is probably not really what the nic cards are they are probably 3c905's...

The home connect nic cards are low end and an easy fix for people that dont know networking I use 3COM 3C905-TXM 10/100 Cards they are fairly cheap (about $45) and work killer with Win2K Pro!
