The same question again,why is the best browser? Internet Explorer? or Mozilla Firefox? i use Mozilla and for my is the best,some times Mozilla can load pages more fast and other times IE is more fast ,despite the security issues,i want to know only in the practical part,in load pages and work in your home or office,why is the best,..............i have problems with java in Mozilla when i try to load a chat room,anyone can help my about the issue,thank,s and excuse mi english again lol

I use firefox mozilla....the customization is great...

hi,yeh i have Java Update 2,but i have the same problem tryng to load the Latin Chat Rooms,

The question of "which browser is best" can be debated until the end of time.

Bottom line: Find the one you like and stick with it.

For me, I find things simply work better in IE. Many venders websites, Outlook Web Access for work, even doing stuff on this forum here, Firefox doesn't work on many things that I do. Plugins are flakey, and one of my biggest gripes with Firefox, I can't open downloaded files on the fly, always wants me to stick them somewhere with that danged pesky download controller. The arguement wether or not those webpages that don't function correctly in Firefox means that they're not coded correctly to standards isn't my problem....bottom line is I need to see and work with those pages somehow, and if IE is what works, IE is what I'll use.

Speedwise it's a tossup, image laden pages I still find IE is faster.

Security wise, well, Firefox may have the lead there, but it also is now being targeted since it's growing in popularity. Remember, the exploiters go after the bigger shares of the market, which used to be just Microsoft, but now since Mozilla is growing, we are reading about security issues in Mozilla now. Microsoft addresses those with free quick 'n easy Windows updates.

Add to that, I know what I'm doing online, I run well protected with additional tools such as Spywareblaster, Spybot immunization, GoogleToolbar, NOD32 antivirus with IMON support, and of course, windows updates are current.

Paft is right, it's a debate that will go on forever, kind of like 'Which antivirus is best"...everyone will have their choices and experiences.

They all suck.

I used to be a die hard IE fan but now I use firefox. I have to use IE once every few weeks as a website won't work in Firefox properly but other than that I have no problems.

Horses for courses I think, I use both Firefox & IE - Firefox annoys me in that they don't update with patches, you have to download the whole program again, and the last version I downloaded (haven't installed yet) requires you to uninstall the previous version first - haven't worked out whether I will then have to download all the other stuff again as well eg; Spell checker, Flash etc.
IE updated with SP2 is also a pain blocks pop-ups usually the ones you want - Goggle toolbar stops most but doesn't stop sign-in screens etc, IE does then you sit there like a twit for ages waiting for the screen to open before the light dawns. Also have been designing and developing a web page on my hard drive - won't open them properly stops Active X and such, a real pain.
Then I have to revert to Firefox to view them.
These things are sent to try us, and don't they succeed.

1.4.2 was considered the 4th major iteration of Java. "5.0" was the fifth and corresponds to Java
1.5.x

Also, I use FF mainly and although IE isn't horrible, I hate it because it makes my life a living hell when I'm dealing with Javascript and other web languages. Also, Opera is probably the most standards compliant browser, but the interface just looks funny to me (I can't get over it, I've tried). If you can deal with that, it's probably your best bet. Apple's Safari 3.0.2 isn't horrible either.

Firefox minus the memory leak and random errors, but with operas speed and interface. IE can stop existing for all I care...I'm still mad over its lack of css compatability.

Best is relative. Best in which way?

For me, I find firefox to be the best. The interface is more customiseable than Opera, Konqueror, Internet Explorer and most other browsers. So much so, in fact, that you can use CSS to restyle the interface, place things like the address bar where you want, even on the file menu line... you can show or hide pretty much any menu or button that you want, or don't want to see.

On a development front, Firefox is also at the top again. I prefer to develop in firefox then test in other browsers. Typically, if something works in firefox, because I know it's up there with Opera and Safari/Konqueror for standards compliance, I know it will work in those browsers too - so I only have to fiddle with my code afterwards to get it to play nice with Internet Explorer.

Finally, it's open source. The security benefits aside, I much more prefer the idea of open development the sharing of ideas. Bill Gates is probably the grandfather of software patenting and in my opinion, it's one of the worst things ever to happen to computing. Its stifles innovation, improvement, competition and is plain out wrong, in my personal opinion. But oh well...

Use whatever you want.
