I have @Home, and in my area its $30/mo. for premium service + $10/mo. modem rental. (Capped service is $25/mo. incl. modem) Installation is free as well as the nic.
It appears you are saying that they have no competition yet in the broadband market in your area. I guess that gives them free reign to charge whatever they want. Bastards!

The demo at the seminar was only 2200Kbs down and 124Kbs up.

Everyone that pays $39.95 per month do you have to subscribe to cable also?

$39.95 Cdn a month for Sympatico's ADSL, that's including modem rental.

Which translates in about $25 American, not a bad deal really. 1.2 down/ 20 up.

OOL is $29.95/mo with $99 modem if you have cable. If not it's $39.95.

Quite a steal at the speeds we get (3-6Mbps down, 1Mbps up at peak hrs).

That's only a few dollars more than most people pay. $44.95-$39.95=$5.00, without modem rental. For the speed I get the, I would pay the extra money if I had to. Worth the money considering the time you save downloading files.

Test from Dslreports, not the fastest here but still real good,
Your download speed : 2707135 bps, or 2707 kbps.
Browsers would show : about a 330.4 k/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 820793 bps, or 820 kbps.
Your connection rocks .. above the 1mbit barrier!

I pay $40/mo for ATT@Home cable. I usually get 3-5Mbps down/1mbps up.

When I had PacBell DSL, I was getting 1.2mbps down/128kbps up for $50/mo.

Charter Pipeline in Smyrna, GA

$39.95/month (includes modem rental)

Supposed to be 500/500 service, there is a $59.95/month pkg that is 1 Mb/1 Mb, but according to DSLreports I'm usually around 750 Kbs down/500 up

High Service Prices. What's everyone else paying?

Post by Sticker-Shock »

I've been reading this board and others now for weeks, waiting and planning to get @Home cable service. Today my local cable service provider, Adelphia, hosted a seminar for this service. They wanted $54.95 per month!!!! My jaw nearly hit the floor. $44.95 per month if you bought the modem. I figured they would have some special price plans for this, the only thing offered at this seminar was free install, and three months for $19.95. Big deal. I haggled for I was worth, stating to them I had seen other cable company's offering @Home for flat $39.95 per month including the modem. No deal. I was just wondering what other people were paying for their service, I was excited about this, but oh well. I'll just have to wait for DSL now.

I have Adelphia 2-way cable and I pay $39.95 a month and that includes the modem rental. The price you quoted seems a little steep.

I have the @Home from AT&T for $39.95 plus rented modem (included in price) deal.

Lets see... DSL....
640kbs x 256kbs service for $29.95 +
ISP $19.95 per month = $49.90
(Always ON, Not PPPOE)
And buying the Cisco DSL modem $300

That what my brother has and pays for his DSL.

Thanks to all who responded. It looks like RoadRunner seems to be a good deal. We have no other competition in this area yet. No DSL or other cable companies. I use sat. for TV and am stuck at the $54.95 price plan. Too rich for my blood. Can't wait for Wireless Broadband.

If you add up the cost for your service, it is $5/mo. less for one year if you consider you are saving $20 a month for the first three months (total savings of $60/12 months = $5/mo.). What's another $5-10 a month anyway. That's one less cruddy meal at McDonald's.
