Installing Ethernet Jacks
Installing Ethernet Jacks
Hey guys, Going to make 2 ethernet jacks for the house. From my basement to the upstairs, literally 6 feet. I know i need the panels etc, but what kind of cable?
Category 5 High Speed Data Cable
4 pairs of twisted cable
Heres an image of the cables http://www.tnt-audio.com/jpg/cat5.jpg
Heres a good howto http://hydraulicslab.ucsd.edu/Cat5/cat5cabl.htm

I figured out how to make another jack but i have another question. Upstairs i have my modem and router etc. I want to install an ethernet jack from there and install 2 lines in the basement off that one line. So that i can have two simotaneous connections hooked up to my modem. But is that possible to split one ethernet jack into 2?

No, you can't connect two PC's directly to the same port on your router. You need to run two lines down or connect a switch or hub at the point where you want to separate the two lines.aagiants wrote:I figured out how to make another jack but i have another question.
