cant delete unneeded icons

there are some icons on my desktop that installed themselves on there one day. i tried to delete them but the drop down menu wont even come up when i right click. and when i go to 'my computer-desktop' it wont even show the icons. what do i do to delete them?

Now back to your question. If they installed themselves I would be thinking spyware or worse. What are the names under them? I would do a scan with Ad-aware and then with Spybot search and destroy. They are both free downloads. Don't forget to update them both before you scan with them. I would also update your anti-virus and do a scan. If you don't have an anti-virus you can download a free home version of Avast or AVG.

You have viruses and/or spyware. If the right click menu won't come up you're long passed due for a format.
