I was wanting to put together a Windows XP SP2 install disk but was not sure how to do it. Well, namely unsure how to make the CD bootable. If anyone can give me - and probably others - a hand in setting this up please do! Thanks!

Here's the problem: I am trying to create said slipstream, but for the life of me I cannot find where in the world Automatic Updates downloaded my sp2.exe file. I have even tried to redownload it, but everywhere I go to download it takes me right to the automatic update center which is no good since I want to burn sp2 onto CD.

Sweet! If anyone else has the same problem I did, you can download the actual SP2 .exe file at:
Windows XP SP2 WITHOUT Auto Update!

Once you have that, go to The Elder Geek's Slipstreaming XP2 Page

Or you could get AutoStreamer, but I haven't actually tried making my SP2 bootable with it yet so I don't know if it will work or not. If anyone knows how to make a CD bootable without spending money could they post it here please? Thanks!

Thanks again, I finally did get it to work. Had to yank an ISO from a Win98 disk, but I got it all setup and tested. Appreciate all the help!

You used the a win 98 boot image for an XP CD? You can get the XP boot image here.

Will it cause problems to use the older boot image? It seemed to boot and took me into the XP install screen, but I didn't test it with a full install yet...

It might? If I remember correctly, the boot menu for a windows 98 is DOS based. It loads a ram drive, DOS cd-rom drivers, and then runs the setup from the CD. Windows XP's setup.exe won't run from DOS. You would have to manually run winnt.exe from the i386 folder on the XP CD. If you don't load smartdrv it will take forever to install, we're talking hours here. It's only done that way when your XP CD isn't bootable and all you have is a win 98 boot floppy. :(

I use nLite to slipstream, it's the best. Lets you create a totally unatteneded install. It allows you to remove components prior to install and ad drivers to the install.
